ALL ENCOMPASSING ARTISINAL FOOD SHOWCASE SET TO WHET THE APPETITE THIS OCTOBER
Get ready to delight the tastebuds this September as the region’s finest producers come together to present their delectable goods at the Great South Coast Food & Fibre Showcase.
Food & Fibre Great South Coast Inc. has been awarded a $70,000 grant under the Victorian Government’s Vic Grown – Regional Activation Grants Program to facilitate the showcase and put the region’s superior produce on the map.
Chair, Oonagh Kilpatrick, said the program provides funding to support the delivery of localised activations that promote and increase awareness and consumption of Victorian food and beverages.
“We know that we grow and create some of the State’s, and the Nation’s, finest food & beverages right here in the Great South Coast, but in the past we haven’t been as proactive as other regions in showcasing this as a collective, so we have set out to change this” Ms Kilpatrick said.
“The Great South Coast not only generates the most food & fibre of any region in Victoria*, but we also have some of the most innovative producers and food manufacturers, individuals and families that have revolutionised the Australian agri-food industry and are helping to pave the way for the future of Australian farming and food production,” she said.
Artisan producers from across the region, encompassing Corangamite, Glenelg, Moyne, Southern Grampians and Warrnambool shires, will come together for the one-day showcase at Deakin University’s Warrnambool Campus.
Food & Fibre GSC CEO, Nicole Newman, who has a long and proven history in successfully championing local produce, said the showcase will involve Artisan Producers ranging from fruit and vegetable, cheese, dairy, seafood, meat, processed food, flowers, wines, beers and gin.
“The list is growing each day,” she said.
“There is a real appetite amongst local producers to demonstrate what a powerhouse this region is in not only growing, but also creating, world-class artisanal food and beverages.”
Ms Newman said the showcase will involve more than just turning up and tasting.
“During the day we will be providing forums and demonstrations from different experts from farming, product making, Landcare, local gardening groups and many more. We hope this will appeal to not just the foodies out there, but also the wider community and visitors to the region.”
“We are also really excited to be offering masterclasses on the day in wine tasting, gin blending, chocolate making, how to use chutneys, relishes and jams in cooking, cheese making and tasting, and presentations from local abalone producers and Waltanna Farms flaxseed oils and more,” Ms Newman said.
